Training and Advice
Thank you for booking on our Lairig Ghru trip
It is a fantastic day out through incredible scenery. Please prepare yourself for the event in the lead up to your walk. As long as you can sustain the distance over the day you will be absolutely fine. We suggest you pull together the kit you will need and go out and test walking with your rucksack and definitely break in new boots!
The walk is committing and if we don’t reach a certain point by a certain time we may need to turn back (note, this has never happened before) but we will pace the day appropriately with rest and refuelling stops along the way, ensuring you have enough time to enjoy the views!

A walk of 32km (19 miles) through the most stunning scenery, the Lairig Ghru can take 9-11 hours and should not to be underestimated. You will walk through the remote reaches of the Cairngorms, passing some of the most impressive scenery Scotland has to offer, full of history and with a diverse eco-system.
Training for these big challenges
Have a look at local websites that give ideas for walks near you. Find some that involve a bit of rough track walking to prepare your eyes for walking on that type of ground. Build up your training on a weekly basis on the run up to your event, including some small hills too, eventually being able to do a big walk in the week or two before. You can of course join any of our other events too!
Transport
The journey back to Braemar or Coylumbridge takes approximately 1.5hrs.
